OUR STORY

OUR HISTORY

Six Rivers Youth Sports will carry forward previous work to build and operate a multi-purpose indoor ice arena to accommodate hockey and other activities. Our purpose is to build and operate for everyone a first class ice arena alongside the existing turf room on site. We collaborate with more than a dozen local youth sports leagues, recreation organizations, and scholastic programs who will use the arena and turf room. We have a network of committed volunteers and sponsors as we aim to address the shortage of reliable indoor ice and all season playing fields for the benefit of the youth in our region and all who enjoy staying active. Originally chartered as Midcoast Ice LLC in 2019 as a subsidiary of Midcoast Youth Hockey Association, Six Rivers Youth Sports is now incorporated as a fully independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit as of 2021 and closed on the purchase of 7 acres and the former Roller World building at 20 Atwood Road in Topsham, Maine in December 2021.

Our Mission

To promote youth sports and recreation through the creation and operation of an ice arena and multi-use athletic center that is easily accessible to local schools, youth sporting organizations and all community members.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We have reached an inflection point after decades of talk about a community ice rink for the Midcoast region. With the elusive control of a site finally secured and with permitting and purchase of the site now complete, we move forward operating the existing facility as we raise funds that will lead to renovation of the existing facility and construction of the ice arena. Improvements to the existing facility are already being made, including raising the turf room ceiling from 7 feet to 12 feet of clearance and improved lighting. Construction on the arena will begin as soon as we secure adequate funding to move forward and could begin in the Summer of 2023. The continued support of our community will determine our timeline for success. Learn more about our vision for the future, here

Our work has advanced on two fronts. Of primary importance has been the investment of two successful Skate-A-Thon fundraisers and other donations in the design, permitting, and purchase of the site which is now complete and approved for construction. Our primary focus going forward will be the fundraising campaign. As of November 2022 we have raised more than one million dollars, putting us at more than 20% of our fundraising goal!

Volunteers are needed to maintain, operate, and supervise the facility during our transition to a professionally staffed facility. While the focus of our volunteer board is now on fundraising, we welcome volunteers or groups that would like to assist in renovations to our current facilities. Please reach out to us if you would like to help!

YOU MAKE IT POSSIBLE

Your support gets us one step closer to achieving our vision while also keeping our current indoor turf field open to the public.
